Technology Marches On - A New
Keyboard Layout MICROSOFT
announced today that it will be changing the standard PC keyboard,
effective next month. "We felt that the addition of certain
special functionality was long overdue," said a Redmond
spokesperson.
The rationale
behind the changes to the keyboard layout reflects Microsoft's continuing effort
to make hardware standards more consistent with the way the Windows
operating system works.
"Though
initial changes will be conservative, this [see photo of the prototype]
new keyboard clearly shows some solid thinking on Microsoft's
part," said one noted industry analyst. "It's this sort
of innovation that will continue to keep Microsoft on top."
